What is Diathermy (TECAR) Therapy
TECAR therapy is the controlled delivery of "deep heating" to muscles and joints for therapeutic purposes. Heat therapy helps by increasing blood flow, relieving pain and improving mobility of the tissues as they heal. It's a relatively new therapy that has been found safe and remarkably useful in eliminating pain and inflammation in joints, bones and muscles.
What are the benefits of TECAR therapy
By increasing blood flow to the area of the injury, the deep heat diathermy generates can accelerate healing. TECAR therapy has proven to be the most effective method for the treatment of musculoskeletal injuries and common pathologies, such as:
· Arthritis
· Back pain
· Bursitis
· Fibromyalgia
· Muscle spasms
· Neuralgia
· Tenosynovitis
· Tendonitis
· Sprains and strains
What is Blood Flow Restriction Therapy
Blood flow-restriction (BFR) therapy is a method of physical therapy in which a blood pressure cuff is placed around a limb while performing an exercise, allowing for better enhancements in muscle strength and muscle size while using a lower training weight. BFR therapy stimulates your body’s natural ability to heal and promote muscle growth. It increases strength without stressing injured parts through the use of heavy weights or prolonged movement. It is often used by athletes both amateur and professional, and can be beneficial for patients who have failed to respond to traditional strengthening techniques.
Benefits of BFR
- Pain management
- Early post-surgical muscle activation
- Reduced healing time
- Increase in muscle protein synthesis
- Increase in growth hormone response
- Increase in muscle hypertrophy with lower load
What is Percussion Therapy
Percussive therapy is performed with a professional-grade hand-held massage device. The device is equipped with a motor that sends strong, steady pulses through its head in order to provide quick bursts of pressure/vibration to the body. This professional-grade device has multiple speeds that lets us target our patients’ specific needs. Percussive therapy massages soft tissues as it pulses fibers with pressure targeting specific areas. The massaging device can target deeper tissues than human hands can during traditional massage, and helps reducing deep muscle tension by down-regulating your nervous system, while at the same time increasing blood flow to the area. This action leads to a long list of benefits that apply not only to the professional athlete, but to anyone experiencing tension, pain, tightness.
Benefits of Percussion Therapy
- Increase blood flow and improve lymphatic drainage
- Reduce swelling and stiffness after a workout (faster post-workout recovery)
- Reduce risk of cramping and pain after an exercise
- Warm up muscles and reduce pressure on joints
- Reduce muscle stiffness, improving joint range of motion
- Can relieve pain from fibromyalgia, sciatica, and other syndromes
What is Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES)
NMES is a device that sends gentle electrical impulses to muscle nerves. This input causes muscles to contract. The electrical stimulation can increase strength and range of motion, and reduce the effects of disuse. It is often used to “re-train” or “re-educate” a muscle to function and to build strength after a surgery or period of immobilization. The treatment creates a similar effect to a physical workout, while allowing the patient to sit still and relaxed. Because it puts no strain on the patient, it’s an excellent tool to retrain weak muscles, or enhancing warm up and recovery for an athlete. There are no risks and no side effects with NMES. The process provides a safe way to help patients regain their strength after surgery or injury, and gives athletes a tool to enhance their traditional strength-building routine.
Benefits of NMES
- Improve joint pain and swelling
- Prevent and reverse muscle atrophy (loss of muscle mass/tissue)
- Increase range of motion for tense muscles or tendons
- Reduces stress and discomfort
- Improves blood flow and circulation
